arcticdream Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 i am changing all the pads, discsbrake and brake pipes on my mk1 when i am putting in new brake fluid should i top up the fluid after i change each pipe or drain the whole system and put new stuff in when all the new pipes are in thanks Quote
chrispb123456 Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 It's not a good idea to just let the fluid drain away, remove the cap from the fluid reservoir then wrap some cling film over the reservoir this needs to be air tight, this will stop fluid draining from the master cylinder and ABS block.Do the work you need to do, remove cling film then bleed a good quantity of fluid from each wheel topping up with fresh fluid. arcticdream Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 will it not drain out when i have to take off the old brake pipes? or is there something i can put in the holes where the pipes connect to the reservor Quote
chrispb123456 Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 As long as the reservoir is air tight you will only loose whats in the pipe, the important thing is not to get air in the master cylinder or ABS block Quote
arcticdream Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 so do i wrap the reservouir before i take off the pipes or once i have taken them off im probably a bit thick but i have only done it on a transit before and i never had to wrap anything Quote
ggobin Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Why are you changingbthe pipes? Thanks. Quote
arcticdream Posted July 30, 2011 Author Report Posted July 30, 2011 failed mot exessive corrosion on 3 of the brake pipes so might as well change them all Quote
