Del2012 Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 hi, hope someone can help...batteries in the key fob died for my new (old ) MkI galaxyhave read the owners manual about re-linking the remote to the car but it does not seem to workhave 'unlocked' from the drivers door 3 times, held in the 'lock' button and pressed the 'unlock' button at the same time for three pressesat various intervals but it will still not link with the car...where is the receiver point for the car remote, it used to work a bit before i changed the batteries but now nothingi might have 'un-linked' it with all my key fob pressings but im not sure if the car is actually getting a signal from the fob or noti only have one remote fob and would love to have it work as its a pain in the **** when your hands are full of tools and stuff to have to put all down and do it with the keyany advise would be helpful Quote

mrmadcats Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 My key fob has stopped locking the car (although it still unlocks it) so I was considering changing the batteries, but I've got no idea what sorts of problems I might encounter. What's the procedure? It's a 'facelift' 2001 2300 Petrol auto. Quote
Saif Rehman Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) Ahhhhhh! The 'key fob stopped working' scenario, mine stopped working a few weeks back. Tried reprogramming but alas nothing. I'm sure one day someone will come along with a miracle cure. I live in hope. Changing the batteries is simple, prise open the case, remove 2 old batteries, insert 2 new ones. However, be careful you do not lose the PATS chip located in the key section or your car wont start. If you change the batteries quite quickly then there is no need to program the fob afterwards. Edited February 21, 2012 by Saif Rehman Quote
Saif Rehman Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Oh i forgot to add in my last post........ I shall be looking at the wiring between the wing and the door as its a common fault in the Galaxy's (they fray with the constant opening and closing). So hopefully my 'key fob stopped working' problem lies there. Quote

Within a minute? An hour? I was hoping to open it, find out what batteries I need, get them, and then fit them; presumably I'll need to know what the batteries are in advance. Quote

zorgman Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 unless you get the door led to flash or do something using the key in door it wont work, just stick to it mine took me 6 goes to do it. also depends on the fob for where the receiver is as theres infra red and radio, if there is a black dome thing nex to int light its infra red and on key theres what looks like a led. obv rf hasnt got these Quote
PG TIPS Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 I'vve lost this part of my key - fell off at some point yesterday! I still have the plastic (emergency?) key, so am I able to get a locksmith to cut me a new one? At this point, I'm not bothered about not being able to use the C/L. :) Quote
PG TIPS Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) ^^^By that I mean the entire key blade top part of the fob - horseshoe part! Somehow it came loose somewhere. If I can't find it, does this mean I need a new blade plus lock?? I see www.keysinthepost.com can supply the horseshoe key with transponder for £32.50. No idea where to find my key number - on the keyring part I still have I see 49l in white lettering. Edited February 22, 2012 by PG TIPS Quote

PG TIPS Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 ^^^^The photo above isn't the one I have, BUT your earlier post #8 looks very much like the one I've lost. That's the bit with the transponder in it - I've been out retracing my steps trying to find it. The local Ford dealership doesn't have my car in it's database, so can't tell me the key number. But they say they can send off the plastic key and have a new one ready for 4 days time. I suspect they'll charge a LOT. Quote
PG TIPS Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Good news! :) I've finally managed to find the missing part of my key by re-tracing my last steps - found in the carpark of the local school! Gal key now separated from Vectra until the Gal is roadworthy! As soon as I can, I'll be getting a working second key fob once I've got a battery for mine to see if the C/L can then work. Phew! Thanks for the advice! :) Quote
