10 Pound Fuel Gets Me 70 Miles Good Or Bad?

Hi guys I want to know if getting 70 miles off a tenner of fuel is good for my tdi 1.9 90bhp 1998 galaxy?

sometimes when i put 10 pound in it says im doing 50mpg so shouldnt i get 100 miles off a tenner then??

diesel here is 1.44 per litre

A tenner at that price gets u around 1.5 gallons50X1.5 is 75 so yes 70 miles is about right

70 miles for £10 at 1.44/litre = 46 mpg which is pretty good. It all depends on driving style, environment vehicle condition etc etc.. Take a look here on page 3 for a reasonable assessment.

 

I can just touch 70mpg in (rare) exceptional circumstances but this went down to 35mpg on my european jaunt, a lot of which was 85 mph with a roofbox and 7 persons on board. Slow steady driving on clear roads in summer generally gets me in the low 50s - round town that will drop to mid 40's - if I hurry the mpg can drop significantly.

right guys whats goin on with my car which i have had for 3 years i fill up approx.78 litres and i will do no more than 450 mile thats is the fuel light on from 370

i never go above 2000rpm and do urban and long journeys works out at roughly 26 m.p.g my tyres are inflated to reccomended pressure and the car is serviced regulary

what am i doin wrong goin by what some of you are saying i should be getting a lot more m.p.g i.e over 700 a tank if only it would be great

i am not getting anywhere near that suggestions welcome

well the most ive had registerd on mine was 59.9 mpg,and that was going under 60 mph.

 

now every year this rears its head and if you do a search on here you will find the same claims by the same people.its great reading the responses :Despecially the ones who cant get anywhere near it.

i average around town 40 mpg but will go down depending on how heavy my foot is.

 

now when i owned my 2ltr galaxy that used to suck fuel to the point of making me cry.

 

and for those who run a v6 version well it aint going to the moon and back on a gallon of fuel is it :lol:but i have heard its a lot of fun trying in 1 of those,:angry2:

i was sort of thinking that way myself just dont believe what that tripometer tells you go and fill the car up and drive a hundred miles and go back and see how many litres it takes to fill up again that is the only way off getting the true result

As above it varies wildly with conditions, styles and maintenance but 50mpg is certainly achievable on a motorway/A road although only if trying and 45ish is far more likely. If you can't get near that figure then you need to be looking at your driving style, vehicle condition and/or a faulty component.

 

The big drop comes from the acceleration, keeping something at a certain speed is much easier then getting it there in the first place and a heavy car like the galaxy takes that much more to get it there.
