steve_r Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Hi The temperature sensor on my 54 diesel is going up and and down while the engine is warming up and then seems stable at 90 after about 15 mins. I guess this is a dodgy sensor? The question is I am going away towing the caravan and may not be able to get it fixed... Is the radiator fan that comes on when the engine works hard driven by this sensor or by a simple thermostat in the radiator - in other words will it overheat without a fully working sensor? Thanks Steve Quote
chrispb123456 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Hi thereThe sensor for the gauge and ecu input is in the cylinder head below fuel pump, the sensor controlling cooling fans is either in the radiator or bottom hose connection depending on engine code.Would advise you replace engine sensor before you tow incase you have other problems with your cooling system. steve_r Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 OK thanks - I was tempted to ride my luck but thats good advice - I have booked it in for tomorrow for that and an after run pump cuz thats getting noisy and intermittent too. I had a thought - I only see the gauge going up and down as it warms up till it finally settles at 90. Could the fluctuations be the pump kicking in and out as it tries to run then sticks again? I guess it could pull colder water from the back 1/2 of the car? Cheers Steve Quote
