chrispb123456 Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Hi and welcome to the forumCheck your drivers door gaiter for broken chaffed wiring, this causes lots of issues, you may need to check other doors and tailgate at some point. Quote
seatkid Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) Check the wiring in all 4 door and the tailgate rubber gaitors. THe wires break and/or the insulation goes brittle and drops off allowing shorts. It is a very common problem and leads to all sorts of symptoms with windows/locks/speakers etc. It is covered in detail with pictures in the technical FAQ (31,43,44) Damn, Chris beat me to it! martin01323 Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 Hi there still new here but hope i can possiably help with this one.I had a very similar fault on my 2002 tdi auto eventually found it to de the washer pipe leaking and filling up the space under the passenger front seat, there is a controll box under there was told it done windows, alarm and locking.I fixed it by drilling a hole in the floor and spacing the box away from the floor with some blocks of wood and dried out the box in the airing cupboard (Girlfriend not impressed with this) put it all together and no problems yet.Sorry this was long winded but hope it will help Quote

I thought the remote locking etc control unit was only under the floor on very early Mk1 models. By 1998 (maybe earlier) it got redesigned and relocated to behind the dash because of the water problem. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 Yes your right Seatkid on the MK2 that is the parking sensor module. Quote
