Galaxy MK11, 2.3 petrol, 2003 plate.

1) Read the common question and replies page, got some useful advise still not overly confident.

The cruise control on my Galaxy has stopped working,it has worked but I don't use it often.

If I set the stalk switch to on the little cruise indicator dial shows next to speedo dial but I can't set the cruise control, it doesn't work.

According to the advise it may be down to a perished hose. To get to this hose I have to remove the NS indicator unit by the removal of 2 screws/bolts using a long driver, is this a screw driver or extension bar. How do I get to these screws/bolts, do I need to remove the NS wheel or can replacing hose be done simply with the bonet open and if it is the hose, what size and where would I get it from?

If the indicator cruise light is working, does that mean it is a perished hose or could there be another reason?

2) Battery is going flat. This has only started happening in the last few weeks, In the morning car won't turn over, use my instant start, starts first time. There are no warning lights showing to suggest a charging problem, I have checked to make sure no lights or any thing else is being left on last thing and yet the battery appears to be discharging/is going flat. If I take it for a run, no problem for a few days, car starts every time but then battery goes flat. It is a relitively new battery, ( 2 1/2 years old but a cheap one ) and that might be the problem, battery maybe screwed but sugestions as to how I might narrow down/investigate further problems?

3) Infamous rear wash wipe. There is a lot of advise on this but still not sure how to go about it.

Rear wiper works fine, I can hear pump when I opporate stalk but no water jet, I gather it could be washer hose linkage front pasenger foot well but there is no sign of carpet being damp. To check this hose do I need to remove front pasenger seat or simply remove/fold back the carpet in the foot well, do I need to remove any thing else and could there be another problem causing no water jet.

The cruise control is a simple device a vacuum pump, pipe and unit on the throttle it adjusts the vacuum to hold the throttle, so yes you will get the light on to indicate the vacuum pump is working but if you have a leak (which is 99% certain what happens) the cruise will not engage. to remove the headlight should be pretty straightforward they are only held in by two screws so have a good look.

The headlight is held in with 4 screws top 2 easy guess you found them, the other 2 you will need a long extension to reach down, just loosen screws dont take them right out.

photo's show left side light.

Not sure if your year does have the pump there still usually pipe end needs cutting off then pushing back onpost-28887-0-01064600-1307544852_thumb.jpgpost-28887-0-49914700-1307544811_thumb.jpg

The join in the rear wash pipe is under the carpet trim just under the door so remove the two screws near your feet and the 2 or 3 in the trim strip and look underneath.

You have of course checked there is water in the bottle.....

The pipe sometimes pops off in the tailgate.

Mine came apart in the passenger footwell, the carpet won't get wet near the passengers feet straight away it first soaks into the sound insulation under it first which is basically a massive dense sponge with a thick rubberised sheet on top. My advice would be DON'T KEEP TRYING TO USE IT. It took me ages to dry it out (towels first -pints of water - then propped with a piece of wood for weeks as I didn't want to cut carpet, then several hours with a fan heater and some tumble drier hose). If you reach under the passenger seat from behind and lift the flap of carpet you may feel water down there first if it is leaking from here. Dry it out quickly if it is as, as you have probably read already, the some of the electronic control modules for the windows and central locking are there in nice dip designed to sit them in water, which they don't like.

This forum link is the one I found most useful for the passenger footwell-->link

Mine also leaked in the D pillar but I'm pretty sure this was because the pipes had frozen in the very cold weather at the start of the year. To check this open the hatch and remove the access panel on the left hand side above the 12V socket. If it has leaked in here then the carpet inside is probably wet. See the end of the above post where I have posted about this. You need to remove the D Pillar trim panel to fix this which also means removing the upper mounting bolt for the left rear seatbelt. This is a spline drive (not Torx) so you may need a special bit to do this. I managed to remove with a Torx bit but had to buy the spline drive bit in order to torque it back into place. The joint is between the D pillar and the duct that carries the cooled air for the air-con roof vents (at least if yours is working :( ) and awkward to rejoin because of it's location.

Good luck

Need to confirm then that the servo pump for the cruise control is behind front passenger side/near side lamp unit, can some one confirm this?

Before I tackle the rear washer foot well issue, how do I get to the washer pipe tail gate end to check it is still connected,

do I have to remove the tail gate door card?

I suspect if it was leaking inside the tailgate it would drip out of the bottom. I can't remember if there is an access panel for changing the bulbs in the rear lights in the hatch but you may find moisture in there.

I suggest:-

(i) Check under passenger seat as I mentioned above. If you have tried to squirt quite a bit recently then I would expect this to be still wet if it is the passenger footwell.

(ii) Check inside the left rear access panel above the 12V socket.

(iii) Check if the hatch is dripping water or inside the access panel if there is one!

(iv) Check for water dripping from the front bumper on the passenger side just in front of the front wheel.

After (i) & (ii) if these areas are dry I would suggest you try and squirt before checking (ii) again.
