Hi, I have a 1.9tdi galaxy 2003 and whilst replacing a cv gaitor at the weekend, I have discovered a pinhole leak on some alloy pipe coming from the air con compressor. Can anyone advise me if replacing this pipe is a diy job and whether you need any special tools to remove and replace the pipe.

The section I need to replace runs from the compressor up to the top left of the radiator then disappears into the wheel arch I think. Is the pipe continuous or can you get just the part from the compressor up to the top of the rad?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi there

Torx sockets are needed to remove the bolts however you will need to have the remaining gas drawn off before removal.

The pipes that run by the wheel arch round the back of engine to the bulkhead also corrode and leak around the pipe clamps I have just had them 2 changed this also involved removing front bumper and O/S wheel arch liner, cost me

Have a look at this post - Assuming you have a diesel and the pipes are routed the same then this is by far easier than taking the front of the car off - However, if you do have a half decent Air Con guy then you may decide to let him do it. The cost of a new pipe is approx £170 so if I were you I would look at some recent posts where someone has posted details of a repairer of Air Con pipes.
