gregers Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 check for broken/frayed wires in the rubber boot, top right of opened hatch.common problem and can cause no end of hassle. Quote
16vrhys Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 can you confirm if there should be two tail lights per a side or one? Quote
seatkid Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 can you confirm if there should be two tail lights per a side or one?Two tail lights per side - a 5w bulb and a 5W/21W bulb (the 21W bit is the stop light) As gregers, carefully pull back the rubber boot and theres probably a broken wire (or worse). seatkid Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Ok lovely thank you , wasnt sure if was earth fault at first as used to smaller cars with single tail light!Don't forget to check the fuse first! Quote
16vrhys Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 now been informed theres actually two switches one for cruise control and one for brake lights ?? the first one closest to the pedal i removed thinking it was brake light switch..........with a threaded section on it to adjust freeplay Quote
seatkid Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Some diesels have two seperate switches, others use a dual combined switch. All diesels have the twin setup, one side used for brakes, other goes to ecu and one of its functions is CC release but there are other functions too, so even models without cc have this setup. It common for the switch to fail. Quote
16vrhys Posted May 15, 2011 Author Report Posted May 15, 2011 the switch had two wires going to it , if any help , Quote
xavier Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 Evening, MOT time and I thought I'd scout around the car and check the lights. Noticed the o/s front sidelight is out and suspected the o/s rear sidelight was also out, but after a couple of minutes blindly fishing around I figured maybe there's only one sidelight on that side. Are both sides the same? If so, given front and back are out, should I be looking for a fuse rather than changing (the rather awkward) front and rear bulbs? Thanks! Quote
chrispb123456 Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 One side light bulb each side on fronts, two bulbs each side on rears. Quote
xavier Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Finally got them sorted, both front and rear drivers side are a real pain. An extra mm clearance in the rear and it would have been straightforward, no idea how you're meant to remove the brake light bulb without taking the whole light out! Got the front sidelight changed by using my phone and a chisel, I'll post the video on you tube (maybe, if I can figure out how to...). Quote
