Galaxy 2.8 V6 Newbe Needs Help

Hi i have a 2.8 v6 galaxy that is useing a bit of water drops down to the min mark wether you do a short or long run temp sits in the middle all the time you are on the flat but as soon as you start to go up any hill it gose up to the r it dose come back down the fans are coming in have change the thermo stat what a pig that was to do just need to know what it could be as im getting fed up of putting water in it every time i use it.

Welcome to the Forum,

you system is not pressurising, that is why it is going into the red (The water system is pressurised as it raises the boiling point of water by another 25 degrees, no pressure and water will boil like in a kettle).

 

this could be down to I my experence to 5 faults

 

1. Air in the system

2. Leak in the system (inc blown head gasket)

3. Blockage in the system

4. Water pump

5. Thermostat

 

as you have changed the thermostat, I would get the pipes disconnected again and give it a really good Back flush the engine and rad (cheapest first option)connect all the pipes up and refill ONLY with water no anti freeze at this point (as you might have to flush again !) I would leave overnight so you had a cold engine, In the morning check the level (has it gone down?) the header tank leave the cap off and start the car up. make sure the heater(s) front and back are on HOT and wait a few minutes till the water starts circulating (This will tell you if the water pump is pumping) and the temp starts to read then put the cap on (this should take care of the air in the system) leave the car running and check you are getting hot air out of both heaters ? if they run cool there is the blockage in the heater matrix, if they stay hot , keep the heaters on and take the car for a couple of miles to see if they run cold or the temp starts to rise. If it all kicks off again get to a garage as they can pressure test your system and also test for head gasket with an indicator

Hi thanks for the reply will check that out i know the system is pressurising as the hosees do get hard front heat has been bypast as it needs changing could this be the problem i need to do it just waitting for a few nice days to get out there to do it the rear one dose blow out warm air.

I have a good feeling that is your problem mate, I had a Fiesta that gave simlilar symptoms when I back flushed the crap that came out from the heater !, ran sweet as a nut after that !!!!

Are you saying the front heater has been bypassed because the matrix is leaking into the car footwells, if so do you know whats involved to change it? and were the pipes just blanked off or removed from heater and linked together.

Yes the heater was bypassed as it was leaking into the footwells the pipes were linked together and yea i know theres alot of work to do to get to it i have said 2day to do it should get it done in that time just need to find a cheap new one.
