roverlloydy Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 I've got a X plate Galaxy and I have a constant flashing glow plug light when I am driving and my brake lights don't work. I have checked the bulbs and they are fine and also I have replaced the brake light switch and that has had no effect. Anyone any ideas what may be the issue?? Thanks Quote
gregers Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) iirc you may have to set the plunger?on the switch. take a look in the faqs in the technical section of the forum,on correct replacement of switch, also iirc there are 2 switches, you may have replaced the 1 what wasnt knackerd. chrispb123456 Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Some vehicles have two switches a black one and a blue one, and as Gregers said may need adjusting, if you still have a problem start by checking for power supply at the switch. Quote
roverlloydy Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 The switch I replaced was a black 4 pin one....will there be another switch?? If so where?? I replaced a blown fuse for the brake lights, the new one hasn't blown but I still have no lights Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 If you have two they are one above the other, check switch for power supply and adjustment. Quote
markleaver Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Interestingly I had exactly the same problem on a Mk2 Galaxy, flashing glo plug light and then no brake lights, so if you found the fix I'd be very interested to know what it was that caused it. Faulty brake light swiches shou;dn't cause the glo plug light to flash, so its unlikely to be that anyway Quote
markleaver Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Look what I found... The glow plug light doubles as the engine management light on the diesels, quite often this is a faulty brake light switch so check and see if the brake lights are working correctly, will also have left a fault code which will pin point the fault. markleaver Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Further investigation of glo plug light/brake light problem indicates that the wiring loom to the tailgate can break, also check the rear compartment where the car jack is usually kept, there is some wiring and a connector there which can get damaged. Also, the grommet which carries the brake/cruise switch cables through the front bulkhead can wear, causing the cables to short (not very common I'd have thought) Quote
