Galaxy newbie Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Hi guys, well I promised I would post again when car was all legal for the road. Have taken her for her first voyage and I have hit along 3 problems if anyone could help then great. 1. Turbo isn't kicking in at all, not a sound all pipes have been off so could this be a wrong pipe attached somewhere if so anyone got a diagram of where the turbo pipes run to?2. Temp gauge in car is working after a run which is good but it seems to be fluctuating almost bouncing but not if that makes sense and finally no 3. The nasty one brakes feel bad, now discs and pads on front look like they were new but car been sat for a while so have gone rusty not to bothered about that but when I keep brake pedal pressed it creeps to the floor, so I'm assuming I must have a leak somewhere or master cylinder is knackered. Can't see any visible leaks at the minute and I have a receipt for a new master cylinder that was fitted from a few years back. So any help with any of these 3 problems would be very greatfully received. Thank you. Andy Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted May 9, 2011 Author Report Posted May 9, 2011 right think the brakes problem is just a good bleed is neccesary, but still no furthur forward with the turbo, not getting anything from it, and when i go up a steep hill the car starts to slow down under full throttle, so am assuming the turbo isnt doing ANYTHING. Also just noticed speedo isnt doing anything either. Any ideas? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Hi AndyShould be one of these diagrams Quote
Mirez Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Turbo and braking - could both be vacuum related so check the pipework again. A missing speed signal will cause all manor of running issues as the ECU can't adjust properly so again check the wiring to it. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 May be a good idea to run Vagcom, now it's had a run? Are you getting servo assistance for braking? vacuum pump needs to be working fully to supply brake servo and charge pressure controls (N75) and EGR valve and (N18)control valve. Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 Servo for brakes is working chris not 100% on vacuum pump gonna delve more tomorrow not had a chance today as been up to hospital with my daughter for eye check. So gonna look tomorrow and report back. Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) Another symptom I've found whilst driving it, it doesn't matter how much you press the accelerator pedal it seems to increase the speed the same I.e if I'm doing 30 then floor it it takes the same time to gain speed as if I just squeeze the pedal. Does that point to speed control sensor, is there anyway to test said sensor. I'm looking at getting a vagcom to help but money is now really tight. Also anyone find one on eBay for me that would work on my galaxy. Cheers. Andy Also lol, on the airbox on bottom half of box on right side as you look in engine bay I have 2 pipe outlets with nothing connected to them, and no pipework left to attach to them!! Anyone know what these are for?? Edited May 10, 2011 by Galaxy newbie Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Hi AndyThe two connections on the air cleaner box, one goes to the N75 valve the other to the N18 valve am just finding the pics will post asap. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Hi AndyNumber 10 on this picture goes to air filter boxNumber 7 is vacuum supply iirc you said you had changed from 1Z to AHU and doesn't show a connection from the N75 but it does on engine code AFN & AFG so have included both diagrams so you can check against what you got. Galaxy newbie Posted May 12, 2011 Author Report Posted May 12, 2011 o.k replumbed turbo lines and n75 and n18 all new lines, and now the brakes are a million times better, but still no turbo(i'm assuming i'd here it and still struggling to get up hills, theres 1 pipe i couldnt figure out that should go to the vaccuum pump but coiuldnt find it so have attached to the rigid plastic black pipe that runs from the front of engine as you look at engine bay around the right side and then behind the engine. am trying to post pics up that i have on the desktop but it wont attach themn for some reason. help.... chrispb123456 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 Hi AndyAm glad you have had some improvement but think you now need to go down the Vagcom route, do you still have no speedo working? as Mirez said this can be giving wrong signals to the ECU, have sent a link for a cable. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAG-USB-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-409-1-OBD2-II-LEAD-VAG-COM-/330399696070?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4ced5b44c6 Quote

Galaxy newbie Posted May 12, 2011 Author Report Posted May 12, 2011 Thanks for the link chris, have gone ahead and ordered it. Still no speedo, but have found a way to test the speed sensor so am going to try that next. Also changed cts for the one out of old engine and now I get no movement at all, so I think this one must be completely dead and the one I removed must be on it's last legs as it was getting upto normal temp and then dropping to zero and back up again. Just out of interest if I'm getting hot air from heater does that mean the stats opening? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 Christ you must have bought a bad un!! you best get a new CTS aswell as this also sends signals to the ECU, as for the heater getting hot, no it doesen't mean the thermostats opened in fact for the heater to warm up quickly the stat needs to be closed, stat should start to open about 88deg c you can confirm this by feeling the bottom radiator hose this will remain cold till stat starts to open. Galaxy newbie Posted May 12, 2011 Author Report Posted May 12, 2011 Lol, I was given the galaxy so I just bought another engine for it, just seems all the sensors on the engine are shagged lol. Engine sounds really good with no smoking, but yes it does seem like one thing after another. There is another thing but I daren't mention it :-) Quote
seatkid Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 Follow that stiff plastic vacuum line from the vacuum pump in LH pic round up to near the fuel filter (RH pic). There should be a small plastic one way valve in line whith this with the other side continuing round the back of the engine to the brake servo. The one way valve has a small side pipe attached - this, I think is the vacuum feed to the turbo control system..... You wont hear the turbo if its in reasonable condition, just a mild whoosh and a lot more power. Dont forget that in addition to all the vacuum pipes, make sure that the boost pipework is also securely fitted and you dont have a hole in your intercooler (small long rad under the main rad) Quote
