d.man Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Good morning allI have a 1998 galaxy 2.0. has been a good old bus, but is starting show signs of wear and tear! i need some help with the coolant system. Between the engine block and the top of the radiator, there is a housing for a sensor. This housing has perished and needs replacing. Problem is i have no idea what it is called, which makes asking for one a bit tricky!I have tried searching online using the part number (023 121 174) but this comes up with no results. can anyone steer me in the right direction? thanks all danny Quote
woodywoodpecker Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 believe it is the thermostat when you buy a new one it comes in the housing Quote

sparky Paul Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) The external thermostat fitted to 98-on 2.3 engines is a metal tee piece in the top radiator hose. In theory, the 2.0 shouldn't have the external thermostat... not impossible though, I guess. To help identify if it is a thermostat, there are some pics of the 2.3 thermostat and further info in this thread... http://www.fordgalax...showtopic=13563 If the object you refer to is actually attached to the head and has the two sensors below, then Chris is right that it is the thermostat housing... which makes more sense. You should be able to obtain one from the dealer without any problem. Edited April 23, 2011 by sparky Paul Quote
Project D Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 Wow, this is pretty interesting. You may have already found a solution, but I thought I'd chime in, anyway. What you have there, sir, is a Volkswagen part number. It is a housing for a coolant temp sensor off a 5-cylinder EuroVan here in the States. I suggest you check with your local Volkswagen dealer with that part number. We didn't use that engine for very long in this country, and I came across your post while frantically trying to find a source for the part over here...we only had it for three years and it's now quite obsolete. =\ Quote
