On odd occasions only, my wiper arms decide to become very slow in operation and often stop. To eliviate this problem, I have to turn off, then turn on the ignition again to get the arms to return to the normal resting place when off. It appears to be electrical, maybe a loose connection at the motor, but have read elsewhere that the system can get seized up. Any hints anyone before I take it to my local garage ?????

Hi and welcome to the forum

These wiper motors will stop to avoid damage when a heavy load is put upon it, linkage seizing is a common problem.

Spindles need to be removed and cleaned up and regreased.

can either be done in situ or take the whole wiper linkage off complete.

I prefer to take whole thing off and change pollen filter at same time which is a bugger to do otherwise.

Do a search on here it's all been covered before with some good pics.

as said; wiper spindles seize up and eventually stop !!

take the whole thing out so you can dismantle it, clean the spindles with emery paper and re-pack with anti-seize/copperslip. i also drilled some holes right through the sides of each aluminium spindle housing so i can drown them with wd40 through the straw applicator on the can whenever i go under the bonnet.

doing the pollen filter at same time is a definite must-do job as well.

My wipers have gradually deteriorated in function until they don't work propertly at all. My husband has now taken off the mechanism but one spindle was so seized he has damaged it when removing it! I am now desparate to replace the spindle as can't use the car when raining!!. Been surfing for parts but any good pointers would be really helpful please. Thanks
