Chimp1968 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Hi. I'm in process of purchasing a used galaxy. Looks very tidy interior and exterior but under bonnet the gear box is wrapped in a kind of charcoal grey padded jacket. Having looked at pictures of the engine on the net I haven't found one that looks the same. What could this be and is it a normal part of the engine design? Apologies if there is a blindingly obvious answer to this question!! Any advice appreciated. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Hi there and welcome to the forumNot heard or seen anything around the gearbox but the MK2 PD engines have a foam type sound deadening foam fitted around the cylinder head then the plastic cover fits over the top which also has sound proofing on it's underside. I think this is exactly what I saw but minus the plastic cover. I can now ask the garage about this with a bit more confidence. Much appreciated. Quote
