Apologies for the double post - I should have posted it here in the first place!

Hi everyone,

I've got a major issue with my 99 Galaxy (2.3l manual). A few months back I walked back to my car having left it for 20 mins to find the central locking not working. After manually unlocking the door I put the key in the ignition but it was as if there was no battery connected. Without me doing anything (other than climbing out the car) it magically came back on and everything was fine. Needed to put the radio code in so I wasn't imagining it, but given that it only happened once I ignored it to a certain extent.

Then this morning...

1. After 2 hours driving the windscreen wipers just stopped mid screen. No sign of life for rest of journey. Ignition off/on didn't fix this either.

2. About 20 minutes after the above happening the car simply turned off as it had done a few months back when slowing at lights (although I can now add that hazards still work), but otherwise it's as if the key is out the ignition and the battery is removed. After a couple of minutes it came back to life as before. This happened a further two or three times in the next 10 minutes. Each time I did nothing to get the power to come back on (other than curse the bloody thing).

Any ideas? A bit of googling suggests that it might be either a battery junction (fuse) box issue but I can't see this, or an earthing issue (for which I believe there's a fairly major earth near the gearbox but I can't find that although I haven't jacked the car up to get under properly).

Sometime today the wipers have decided to start working again. They had almost seemed stuttery across the windscreen at times this morning.

Help!! Any suggestions (aside from 'sell it quick') gratefully recieved.

I've now read that linked article in full and would say that the problems people were having there seem to be at worst the engine not running/turning over but the ignition being on. For me this morning all power went (with the exception of the hazard lights), including the constant power to the radio for memories, etc. To me this suggests either a complete short or a loss of earth associated with the majority of circuits. I'm not however ruling out the possibility that the wipers are a seperate problem.

Aswell as checking the earths have you looked at the positive battery terminal and associated red wires.
