chucks4x4 Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 How much of the drive shaft is left? is there enough to get a good grip of. They are held in place in the gearbox by a snap ring & it can take a good sudden yuck to free them. Alternately drill & tap the shaft & use a slide hammer to release it.Beware trying to lever between the shaft & gearbox (it is soft Ally) & may damage gearbox casing.Ensure the car is securely mounted on stands as quite a bit of sideways force will be required.Hope this helps if no-one can give you any better advice.Good luckChucks Quote

It may be possible to tap it out by removing O/S driveshaft depends on access around differential pinion shaft. Quote

That sounds like the body of the inner CV joint is still attached to the gearbox - this should normally come out with the driveshaft. It should be possible to insert a small pry bar (or similar implement) between the driveshaft and the cv joint, insert a small wedge of wood against the soft gearbox casing to prevent it being damaged. You can just about gain access from underneath, between the rear of the gearbox and the front subframe. It will need a firm push to pop the circlip that holds it into the gearbox. Take care not to damage the oil seal on the gearbox, and be prepared for some oil loss on removal... you may need to top up the gearbox after replacing the driveshaft. Remember to lubricate the seal and driveshaft splines liberally before reassembly. Quote
