icecoolpsycho Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 When I press the aircon button in the car it lights up. That's pretty much it. I don't hear clicks from the engine. It doen't sound like the car is suddenly under load and the second fan on the radiator doesnt do anything. I have been advised that a regas might help (car been sitting in a garage for a year) but surely even if the gas is knackard I would hear some of the things I've described. Any Help Appreciated. Wayne Low gas pressure will be sensed at start up and will inhibit the A/C from working and If its not working then you won't get any of the things you describe. There is this common belief that vehicle A/C systems just loose all their gas naturally - it SHOULD be less then 5% annually so a year in a garage is nothing - if its low then you have a leak which will almost certainly be around the drier cap. daddyfixit Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 as mirez said, the system has a fail-safe that prevents the compressor from kicking in if there is little or no gas pressure. i have had mine re-gassed 3 times in 6 years, costing around Quote
sparky Paul Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 if its low then you have a leak which will almost certainly be around the drier cap.As Mirez says, that is a common issue on mk.2 (2000-on model) Galaxys, however the earlier cars have a completely different receiver/drier arrangement and do not suffer from this problem. They do however have other aircon weaknesses, mainly the pipework... If yours is a mk.1, the solid pipe which crosses under the front offside chassis rail is a common failure point, muck collects between the pipe and the chassis and corrosion sets up due to the dissimilar metals. Another sound bit of advice is to run the aircon regularly, particularly through the winter when many do not think of using it. This distributes the lubricating oil around the system, and in particular onto the pipework seals, which minimises the loss of gas. Quote
