jaycee_w_uk Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Hi, Anyone know anything about serious inner edge tyre wear on a 09 plate 2.0l tdci fitted with Continental run flat tyres? The road contact area is fine and shows even wear all the way across but the inner top of the side wall area is worn through to the canvas! Looks very much like its been rubbing on something but there is no signs of rubbing on any of the suspension etc. Local dealer is closed and don Quote

b318isp Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 As posted elsewhere, I find the stated tyre pressures too low. I'm running a few psi higher on 17". However, geting the tacking checked is a starting point. Quote

scooper1 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 having run galaxies for the last 12 years mainly the v6 2.8 I can say that they wear the inside down to canvas while 2-3 mm of wear out side even with spot on tracking the mark 3 might be a lot better ... or not I run 45 psi all around with light load and 49 psi fully loaded with the v6 I also selected the tires with the highest load index for longest life with the recommend 93 load rating I was lucky to get more then 10,000 miles on a set of fronts I have not run my new 60 plate long enough to see if I need to run higher then recommend pressure but i would not be surprised to find that higher then recommend pressure is better - I think this is a bit like the engines are generic tune for all conditions - I suspect that in UK mainly at sea level then higher will be beter I did not buy my new car with run flats because I believe in the eyes of the uk law you have to fit tires of same or better spec then fitted during manufacture - so if run flats are fitted you can't go back and use normal reinforced tires even if the same model of car is supplied with normal tires Quote

Weimster Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 My rear tyres are down to the 2-3mm mark. I am amazed at how high ALL run flats are now. It was less than two years ago that I got Nokian Z's fitted on the fronts for Quote
swagger Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 [All galaxies come with XL tyres the runflats are an optional extra, xl tyres are tyres that are put on heavy vehicles and have an extra load hence XL, runflats are xl tyres but also if they get a puncture you can run them for around 50miles at 40mph to a garage but they cant be fixed, just replaced. there is more choice of XL tyres and are standard issue on gals and can be punctures can be fixed, they make financial sense Quote
