The aircon on my 2003 TDi keeps losing gas. The local dealer initially said it was due to lack of use (yeah, right!) and refilled it. This process lasted me until the warranty ran out and then they said that I needed a new compressor (or was in condenser - forget). Fraud eventually agreed to pay half so I booked it in for the work.

I picked that car up the following day to find that they'd refilled the gas and not replaced the compressor (condenser?). Apparently it was found to be working fine. They agreed that there must be a fault in the system somewhere allowing gas to leak out but said that investigating the repair was too costly to be worthwhile and suggested getting the gas refilled every year.

When refilled it works ok, but never gets as cold as the aircon on my Peugeot 406.

'Summer' this year hasn't been hot enough for me to get around to getting the gas refilled yet...

Overall, a very ineffective system (both the aircon and the dealer network!)

think you might need to take advice on what fords have said to you, wouldve thought(my opinion)that if they have said that they are going to repair it then back out, then surley they have entered into an agreement with you, obviously it cheaper for you but sounds to me there trying to weedle there way out of doing the work?????.

Going quite a bit back in this thread to the problem I was having with my remote not working...
All you need is a new key....in fact only the remote part of it.....loads on ebay.

You can swap the blade and chip from the old one and reprogramme the remote part in about 10 seconds extremely simply just using the key and your doorlock.

Check the link to the faq in my sig.
Just a quick update to say that I did get a new remote off eBay, quickly exchanged the blade, and reprogrammed it in a jiffy AND saved a small fortune. Excellent :-)

Attached is a photo of the part you need (depending on your exact model), and the little plastic bag that it came in.

Thanks Big_Kev!

I'm sure Aircon was working when viewing the galaxy to buy.... but it was many months before deciding to use it, only to find didnt switch on!!!!

A mobile aircon man came round and ran gas in, only to find tiny holes on both pipes at the back of engine bay :o
I have heard it is expensive to get this repaired... At least the compressor is still working, shame it dont get cold....

Newbie here (Still in the Learner Pen searching for 2nd Gear) -

Had similar problems with my Climate Control unit - ie. kept flasing for a few seconds when engine first started. When last serviced had mechanic regas the unit but still didn't work properly (this was last August 2008) - put it on the long finger up until last week.

Enter second problem about a month ago - electrical faults in the rear section of the car (no reverse lights, fog light kept coming on in the dash display, no rear window wiper) - found the problem last week (FULL THANKS TO THIS SITE  ) and it was a broken earth in the loom running from the main body of the car to the boot lid (thru the black rubber corrogated boot). Reconnected this and all electrical problems dissappeared -

NOW THE FUNNY PART - my air con is back working again - the unit is still flashing on ignition start up but cold air blows (and hot air too which was missing over the winter) -

Can anyone offer an explanation or was the previous owner of my 2001 1.9TDi Pepper Red Ghia Galaxy from the Twilight Zone

normally iirc a flahing unit means it needs a regas.it is rather strange that when you mended the wires the aircon suddenly worked but hey these cars all do weird and wonderful things that are unexplainable

Flashing unit means a fault somewhere, usually gas lo/hi pressure but could also be sensor fault/flap actuator fault/others....

Typical, nice hot weather and my air-con has packed in.

It is hissing from behind the glovebox, and blowing warm air.

I have had no trouble with the air-con for 6 years since most of it was replaced under warranty. (two new compressors, condenser and it turned out to be the evaporator).

I'll have a look at the dryer cap tonight, but I really can't justify spending

Hi please let me know what it is...! I have an 03 TD Ghia with a leak... I think... the revs dip when I put the aircon on so I presume the pump is working... but I can't see a leak... the climate flashes but it has done ever since I replaced it because the old one had coke poured in it!! I am tempted to change the condenser myself... anyone had a go at this? Or just replaced the O rings?
