chrispb123456 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Hi and welcome to the forum You need to check for broken/frayed wiring in the door gaiters in particular the drivers door, causes all sorts of problems and is quite common, you may need to check fuses as well Quote
javelin Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 hi thanks for reply i have checked the wires in all the doors seem to be ok,checked fuse in main box ok is thre any other fuses.i did think it maybe the button that stop rear windows opening but not sure if this does just rear or front passenger as well i changed master switch but stil the same Quote
gregers Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 double/triple check the wires again.then look at the switch itself. Quote
javelin Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 hi thanks for replys will have another look at wires great site many thanks Quote
andyfishing Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Hiya, I had this problem and plugged it into a VAG COM - it said there was broken wires on Drivers side were it went to the bodywork. It looked like there wasn't, but two wires were broken just as it went into the bodywork. Quick solder and all fine. Andy Quote
Globe Trotter Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Hi Guy's I too have recently had the same problem with windows! The best way to check the wiring is to pull away the gator at one end(Door side) and gently tug at each of the wires. If they are broken they will very easily come away in your hand. Depending on which cable breaks, this can also play havoc on your alarm too! it could keep setting the alarm off if there are shorts between the exposed/damaged wires. don't forget the alarm is also connected to the electric windows too. My NSR speaker stopped working as this was also an indicator of the problem I had with the broken wires. I hope this was helful to you. Quote
javelin Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 hi all does anyone know what colour wire or wires i should be checking in the divers door gaiter to power the windows from their own switch cant understand why they work from master switch as theres power going to motors many thanks Quote
Gertie Galaxy Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 Hi folks, my drivers window stopped working, irritatingly enough in the partially down position. First checked all the fuses, all ok. next take off the door card and check the switches, all ok, can hear some relays ticking on and off when i try to operate the other windows from the drivers console. Disconect the plug and socket on the motor and the other windows function. Strange. Much head scratching, cant find the relays, handbook mentions level 2, are they behind the fuses in which case how on earth do you get to them? More head scratching. Halfords dont do the Haynes 1.9 TDi ghia, and they are pricy books anyway. So, saturday evening I find this little gem of a website with lots of very very similar faults all pointing to the loom in the gator between the A pillar and the door. So its relatively easy to get the connector apart and lo and behold six broken cables. Solder and heatshrink, then the bastard bit trying to get the plug and socket back together. My 10 year old lad was curled up in the footwell trying to hold the socket in place, Eldest son holding the door partially closed and me huffing and puffing trying to get the plug engaged. FAIL ! Solution - take the door off. Hinges are locked in position by 6.5mm a/f grubs, undo the 10mm a/f pin door restraint, lift the door straight up and lower onto a beer crate. Easy to get the plug back then drop the door back in place. Careful, its heavy! Reconnect battery negative lead then consume beer from recently released beer crate. I can only add that the Ford designer that put this together ought to be shot. Hope this thread helps someone. :) Quote
Daniel Overton Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Is there any where that you can get a diagram of what wires should be in the door gator and where they go to on the plug? Mine have evidence of repairs but the windows dont work still and one of the speakers makes a loud pop when the radio is on and you start the car. Like its getting a surge of power to it. Previously it didnt work at all, because of a broken wire, which i fixed. If i could get a diagram of what wires go where i could check that firstly i have all the wires i should have and secondly that they are in the places they should be. Cheers. Quote
new nige Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 I can get the outer threaded part on when the door is still hung but when you clip it back on the the main connector it wont turn. Has anyone else found this? I seem so close and dont really want to take the door off if i can avoid it, a bit of confidence would be nice, feed up with stuff breaking. nige Quote
scott r Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Hi I am new to this and have just spent a couple of hours looking at what you guys have already sussed out. After stripping the door card and some of the area near the fuse box inside the car, I can't see where the door wiring loom connects inside the car. Does it terminate into the gator on the door pillar or is there a connecter further inside the car to allow the wiring loom to be completely disconnected? It is in such a difficult position to solder so removing would be much easier to do a good job and not have to do it twice (I hope!). I have looked at http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=10371 and it does look like the inner door pillar terminates the wires, is this correct, any other pics would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Scott. Quote
sparky Paul Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 The fixing on the door pillar is a plug and socket, the convoluted rubber gaiter can be removed once the plug is disconnected. It's usually easier to repair the wiring in situ, the fractured wires will be behind the plug, inside the gaiter. IIRC it isn't a straightforward job to remove the loom from the door completely, without some significant disassembly. Quote
andyfishing Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 My drivers widnow switch was playing up and strangely the sunroof. So checked wires even though only repaired last summer. Well let me say I will never go back to that autoelectrician. Worst job I have even seen. The wires had simply been soldered and it really needed new wire soldering in. The wire had decayed. So chopped out wire , new one inserted and everything works perfectly. ALWAYS CHECK THE WIRES. I just have to now change my thermoswitch, paint battery tray and then I am running out of jobs to do. I have a slight oil leak on the head which will need sorting, but that is for a garage - not me. It is a fantastic car. So different than a Land Rover Discovery. Andy Quote
