Hi guys,

Just joined today.

I have an 02 build Galaxy 1.9 115hp Zetec. The remote key for the central locking only works now and again to open the car and will not lock the car at all. It will work if I do it manually.

I have changed the batteries and synchronised the key successfully but still no joy.

Any ideas?

firts port of call would be to check for broken wires in the door gaitors, then take it from there.

what are the door gaitors?

The door gaiters are the rubber trunking that carries all the wiring from the car body to each individual door and tailgate, the wires break and chafe with the constant opening and closing.

I dont think this is a gaitor problem. OP says manual operation of central locking is ok.

Unfortunately its the first symptom of a failing keyfob. Many people (including myself) have suffered this. Despite my best efforts to fault find, I think you will find your keyfob eventually stops triggering the central locking for good despite the led in the fob working. Only solution is to buy a new fob - check its the exact type and freq for your model before you do.

I would agree with that, nothing in the door wiring should effect the remote operation if it works fine with manual C/L.

Key fob fail seems to be quite common but again for no apparent reason - I had the PCB under a scope and tested, there is no clear reason why they fail. :5:

ah ha,iirc there was a post on here way back, where someone had a problem with there fob,im sure the board actually split somehow.

remote fobs do suffer from dry solders aswell.

Hi my recently acquired mk2 tdi Ghia gave the previous owner these symptoms and now ultimately won't work. i've noticed this item My link on Ebay and am tempted as the seller claims it suits a Sharan and in a msg he claims also the Galaxy and that the immobiliser is the same however my common sense tells me he's talking rubbish as he states its remote frequency is 434 mhz as opposed to 433.92 mhz. Am i right to leave it or is it worth a try?
