Never posted on here before-hope i am doing it right!

I've had a problem with my ford galaxy for several months, the immobiliser light inside the door was flashing a red light & the car wouldn't start, i had to keep trying it until the light was constant red for the car to start. It has just got worse as the months went on & it kept happening a lot more, usually when i had stopped for petrol!

The car was taken last week to a key programming place, they have put a new transponder on which seems to have fixed the immobiliser problem as the central locking is working again & the red light inside the door is constant red but the car just wont start. When you turn the ignition on you can hear it power up but then theres no noise & it wont start.

All the electrics are working, radio, lights, windows etc.

Can anybody help as i have asked several auto electricians & they have said the only thing i could do would be to take it to ford which i cant afford to do at the moment.

When i took it to the key programming place they said it kept coming up with a PATS MODULE FAULT.

The galaxy is 2001, automatic. Hope somebody out there can help! Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum

So are you saying the starter is turning the engine over but it's not firing or just nothing happens (no starter noise)

I take it this is a 2.3 petrol model

sounds like the same problem as mine has, all the lights come up on the dash and nothing happens when you turn the key, mines in a garage at the moment (not fords) and they have got as far as saying the transmission switch is faulty (which may or may not cure the problem) but the ecu isnt 'talking' to their diagnostic equipment, if it costs too much ill break the car and buy another one

edit: mine is the same car 2.3 petrol 2001 model (mines an auto)

Yes the engine is not starting but there is a noise when you turn the ignition then theres just no noise & it wont start.

Thanks for the reply, did you have the immobiliser problem aswell? If you could let me know how you get on that would be great. Thanks again.

well i thougth it was the immob, but the auto elecs place its at now said the galaxy immob will alloy the car to start then cut out as its linked to the fuel supply (sounds reasonable i suppose) what 'noise' do you here trying to start it, i assume its not the starter motor, mine makes a sort of fan like gurggling sound, i think thats the fuel pump

Its just a normal noise that it makes before the engine starts (haha, you can tell im a woman!). Don't know how to explain it! hope you know what i mean!

Oh dear you don't make it easy :5: am going to guess and say faulty relay 30 as thats quite common.

Could you not get someone with an ounce of knowledge to confirm whether the starter is operating or not :)

Sounds like the same that happened to me turned out to be coil pack mechanic friend sussed it out quite quickly, just pulled spark plug lead off touched to metal with spark plug in it said straight way it was sparking but no where near as much as it should be said think its coil pack, and what had happened was that water had got on to the coil pack and caused it to arc on to the car therefore not pushing enough power to make the spark good enough to start the engine, quick spray with good old wd40 left 5 seconds and car started.Got a new coil pack brand new ebay for £22 delivered,as he said it would probably do it again at some point so worth getting a new one.He also advised me when i do put the new one on to wrap it in a plastic bag and zip tie it round the coil pack and this will stop any problem relating to if the coil pack got damp again.Hopefully its the same case for you.Read my post here and what people said
