Problem started friday morning car just turning over but doesnt sound like it firing also when turning over led in drivers door either flashes or stays on permanent have tried wiggling the relay 30 this was easier to get to than i looked through the faqs i assume this is because of it being an older model or am i missing something? also disconnected the battery and then tried it again but still no joy im a bit limited to what i can do as i suffer from a disease called ankylosing spondylitis which is my spine so cant do a terrible amount.Have trawled through the topics and have tried bits and bobs but no joy.If anyone can help or advise will be really chuffed thanks for looking at my problem.

Hi there

Have you tried using another key? if you have one.

Yes have used both my key and my wifes key we can unlock the car alright and it turns the flashing alarm off when we do so but when we try crank the engine it lights up or flashes.Might even be that the battery is about dead from trying to crank it so many times that it is doing the led light for all i know.Have a friend coming up with some jump leads in a bit to try and give it a bit more life and see what happens then.

If you're certain the keys haven't lost the PATS chip in them (usually when opening them up to replace the batteries) then you need to do this.

1. When you turn the ignition on (don't crank the engine) you should hear the fuel pump (which is in the fuel tank) turn on briefly for about 2 seconds as it primes the fuel system. Its a quietish buzz/shushing noise. If you cant hear this then a duff relay 30 (fuel pump relay) could be the culprit.

2. pull off one of the spark plug leads and using bits of wire etc check you get a spark when turning the engine over. If not, could be distributor or coil pak.

Had the same with my 1999 Galaxy. Replaced relay 30 and problem has been fine for past 3 months. I opened and inspected the old relay and to my surprise it looked fine inside. I suspect there may be a design fault with these relays as the ford dealer I bought the new one from had a hefty stock and commented they were "very popular"!

Usually its a dry solder joint.
