It can't be bought seperately so its a new intercooler or a flexible sealent fix. Quote
jamesey Posted January 11, 2011 Author Report Posted January 11, 2011 seems to be more oil around the passenger side where that pipe is , is that the one mirez? Quote
Mirez Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 seems to be more oil around the passenger side where that pipe is , is that the one mirez? Common fails are the pipe perishing on the off side, and both seals degrading between plastic and ally on both sides. If its around the pipework rather then on the ally then it could be as simple as the pipe being loose or the clip having lost its omph! Quote
jamesey Posted January 11, 2011 Author Report Posted January 11, 2011 my weekend job i think , its under a 3 month warrenty so i want to know whats up before i tackle them Quote
gregers Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 if you are within the 28 day for sale of goods act????then start moaning at them and let them do it. Quote
seatkid Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Isnt oil in the intercooler a sign of impending turbo failure? Oil leaking from the turbo seals, which if it get bad enough causes the dreaded runaway engine syndrome? Keep an eye on oil consumption, and if the engine does take off - be prepared - its virtually unstoppable. Look it up. Quote
Mirez Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 It can be yes but because the intercooler is so far down on the galaxy then it tends to collect normal oil vapour and if theres a dodgy seal then it leaks out. If there is a concern that the turbo may be failing then pop one of the intercooler pipes off and inspect - the pipe will have a covering of oil on the inside and possibly a minute amout of "standing" oil - if there is more then that or if it runs out then there is a potential oil seal failure,,, Its quite normal for the vapour to be there in any turbo diesel engine and the EGR system doesn't help matters so don't be that alarmed! Everything that has been said here is correct but whilst browsing my TIS cd I came across this statement........ "The Turbocharger Runs at very high temperatures and therefore an amount of oil will pass through the seals, this is normal and should not be considered a fault. Turbo failure is normally associated with noise when the lubrication system no longer provides enough oil (excessive leakage) to lubricate the bearings". Bearing that in mind, common sense will tell you if there's a problem by the amount of times you are having to top up the oil level! As mine is not really using any, I'm not too concerned yet! but I will be looking for an Intercooler shortly. Another interesting co-incidence....... this has only happened since I disconnected the EGR valve & an amount of oil is prevalent in that area too.I have re-connected it now and it seems to be better (dry).
