Just had my Galaxy 1.9TD 115 bhp back from garage for repair of cambelt and rods (car had previously been off the road for 2 years), been told to take it easy for a while, been taking it easy but car has barely any power when accelerating. Just checked under the bonnet and noticed that the MAF connector was unplugged so I plugged it back in which made it even worse so I've had to unplug it. Does anyone have any Idea what my problem is? yeah sounds like it needs a new maf,

but if you have just had work carried out on it,then my first port of call would be the peeps whoo worked on the car

with a bit of a rant thrown in.

vagcom cant do timing on a pd engine but it can check maf, by sounds the maf is dead as its no better/worse when plugged in, cheap ones work but better to get a bosch unit but not off ebay as lots of copies on there. Go to a motor factor at lease youll have a g/tee

Can't agree about timing, you can always check where the timing on PD engines is if you access in VCDS (Vag Com) 01 Engine > Measuring Blocks > Group 4 > 4th box shows how advanced is the timing (should be between +3 to -3). If is outside of these range, they have not done cambelt change right and would expect they will sort problem out.

Regarding MAF, always go for genuine BOSCH part as the non-genuine are in most cases dodgy ones and at the end you will have to buy BOSCH one.

Having a similar problem... have a 1.9 TDI Galaxy Ghia

Last week I had a sudden drop off of power and ever since the car has been struggling. Had it checked out by a place who hooked it up to a machine and said it wasn't the turbo - most likely the MAF. Has been churning through petrol and oil and letting go a good bit of smoke from the exhaust.

Disconnected it to see if it made any difference and it ran about the same - one of the other threads here says to try that.

So I went to a garage this evening to get the MAF replaced at a cost of
