mikej Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 (edited) Hi all i,ve just bought myself a vag comm lead to reset my airbag light and while playing with the software noticed a fault relating to the outside temp sensor possibly open circuit, to be honest i have been wandering for some time now about it's accuracy. Does this sensor have anything to do with the aircon system at all as i have had issues like most of you with this crappy setup, system will fire up then won't and so on. Plenty of gas in system,no leaks and a working compressor etc, it's had a mind of it's own for the five plus years i have owned this bus. Anyhow my understanding is that the system won't kick in untill a particular outside temp is reached, i am not looking to use it at -3 etc but it would be useful for the demisting in this damp weather. Location, what temp before system will work and how to check it would be good :16: Any help or thoughts on this one please  ?mike... Edited January 7, 2011 by mikej Quote

mikej Posted January 7, 2011 Author Report Posted January 7, 2011 (edited) Hi Chris, i only reset it tonight to be honest so havn't checked the operation since, will try it tomorrow now. With regards the temp reading on dash if anything it appears to be reading high which doesn't make sense, on one occasion last week it was below freezing here and yet the temp was showing almost 12 degrees :16: Even during the recent mini ice age which lasted two weeks i only noticed it go below freezing once, just wandering if there may be a connection between this and my intermittant aircon  Edited January 7, 2011 by mikej Quote

You know where the sensor is located, behind the lower grill to the right of centre as you look at the front, black plastic block in a clip just unplug to replace. Quote
Mirez Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Yes, the outside air sensor is shared between the clusters display and the climate system. Its important that its working as the climate panel uses it to disable the compressor at threshold value (4*c) and to know what temperature the outside air is that its drawing in and subsequently what level of cooling/heating is required. The cluster is purely sampling the resistance of the sender to show the temperature but if its not reading accurately then its worth swapping it out (check for corrosion in the wiring first) - also check the senders in position, with higher readings its quite possible its been dislodged and is living in next to the warm air circulating the radiator. mikej Posted January 8, 2011 Author Report Posted January 8, 2011  Mirez blimey how do you know all this stuff then, this means that yet again i am going to have to look into this bloody aircon issue, if you said no nothing to do with it then it would have stayed as is but you can't help hoping that one day all will working :16: Any suggestions on testing it out of circuit then, i've never even seen the sensor but no doubt i shall be under car again, according to Chris a black plastic block behind the lower grill, is this the grill in the bumper then do you know ? Cheers bothMike... Quote
