Zork Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) Hello. I'm having to change my front coil springs on my 1999 2.3 Ghia X and I thought at the same time I would change the shock absorber top mount bearings. I can source the latter which seem to come in two round parts, the mount and the bearing that fits in it. But is there a metal plate that goes over this ( the bit that fills up with water and corrodes!)? If so, what is it called and where can I get them.Or is it just the two parts? Any help would be appreciated. Rob. Edited January 6, 2011 by Zork Quote
Mirez Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Hi Rob, yes there is a metal cup plate in which the top nut sits - normally its the the nut and strut that have corroded and the plate can be cleaned out - I doubt anywhere other then a main dealer will be able to source them for you though. Zork Posted January 7, 2011 Author Report Posted January 7, 2011 Thanks. That makes sense now. I'll let the mechanic sort that bit out. Quote
sparky Paul Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 As Mirez says, the top cup is a dealer only part, but they're not expensive, about Quote
Zork Posted January 20, 2011 Author Report Posted January 20, 2011 Thanks Sparky. Didn't see your post until I'd had it fixed, but I will bear it in mind for the future. Quote

Bigjeeze Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 mate got one last week and its a new shape more flat without the deep cup ford reckons its a new mod stop water gathering in cup I drilled a couple of holes in mine to stop the water gathering there - Seemed like the obvious thing to do - Amazing that it's taken them around 13 years to redesign that part!!
