hi all,

am going to get timing belt changed soon, does the mk1 tdi AFN suffer from the impeller coming off like the mk2 just wondering if i should swop that as well 150,000 miles on original

1st) Why are you replacing the belt so soon?

2nd) Yes, always change the waterpump with the cambelt.

3rd) Always change the pulleys/tensioners when changing the cambelt, the tensioner seizing up is usually what causes cambelt failure on these VW engines from what I've heard.

thanks for advice,, am changing the belt on a time basis 6 years rather than milage, seems to be the favored option as its now done 6 years but only about 10, miles since change

Ah ok! Makes sense now.

 

Pretty good annual mileage then! I do that or more in a year!

christ 10k in 6 years your engine must be mint, dont forget filters if there not changed also the 2 belts aux and pump belts will need doing if same age
