George106 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Hello everyone, My gal had cam belt + pump changed recently and from the change I do experience a bit rough idle for first 5 minutes (may be down faulty glow plugs) and also at low revs (2nd or 3rd gear) a bit of judder. I have read here timing could be checked at Engine measuring blocks, group 4, and the 4th box and value should according to VCDS between +3 to -3. Mine is currently "jumping" around -1.6 to -2.6 on idle warm engine. Some people say, it's better to set it to 0. Now I am wondering what value do you have on your MK2 AUY/ASZ engines? I can't have it changed in the garage which changed the cambelt (distance issue) and before I go to local garage to have it changed I want to be sure it would have any effect on my current issues. ThanksGeorge Quote
zorgman Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 you cant check timing on a pd engine with vagcom as no pump to move, if the car didnt have these faults before sounds like a timing issue but as yet not worked on a pump duese so only thing would be get the dynamic timing checked nie does all the marks line up as the cam "floats" and can be half tooth out which can cause the above fault, Quote
serviceforce Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 disconnect the MAF sensor wire which is the one in the pipe from the air box.Now reconnect it and see if engine roughness has gone Quote
zorgman Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 good thought welcome to the forum but do it the correct way.you know the way car drives now so wait untill its got a bit heat in then turn engine off and unplug the multiplug on the maf its that wierd tube comung off the airfilter, now drive car see if theres any difference if it drives the same mafs dead if it drives worse mafs ok so replug in with ign off. Mine MAF is working fine (checked through VCDS), also EGR, however have a overboost problems when flooring at 3rd gear 3k revs. for longer than 5 sec. Otherwise no overboost when driving normally 2-2.5k but this is OT. I finally got new glow plugs (BOSCH GLP023) and would have them fitted in the same time as polish inner driveshaft assembly so hopefully cold engine "misfire" would ease off and I would leave timing problematic to someone else atm.
