supermarriott Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 I have a 51 plate 2.3 galaxy ghia, I have a list of problems that I am assuming are electrical 1. sometimes won't start, imoboliser light in drivers door flashes. THen after a few attempts the light stops flashing and the car starts?2. Open passenger door behind the drivers and the hazzard lights flash. Then when you close the door the lights flash and the front electric windows open!3. Front electric windows will operate somes days and not others4. clock has stopped working5. Mileage is currently recorded but when you turn engine off the trip mileage resets itself?6. Central locking has stopped working so can shut all doors excet drivers manaully, the boot remains open and the petrol cap will not open without force? any ideas what is causing all of these problems? What costs am I looking at to get it fixed or should I look at selling this as a repair job, if selling what should I ask for it, it also needs 2 new tyres? The car has 115,000 on the clock also has 9 months mot on it. Quote

chrispb123456 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Hi thereYou need to inspect the wiring trunking going to the drivers door and possibly rear tail gate, as wires are prone to breaking and chaffing, causes all sorts of problems you may need to check fuses aswell. There is instructions in the FAQ's of the technical section for help with this Quote

supermarriott Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Thanks for the advice we have decided to sell it but not sure what to ask for it? It also needs 2 new tyres and someone has bumped the bumper at teh rear causing minor damage, the bumper now doesn't line up by about 0.5cm on one side. Some guidance from those in the know would be great Quote
Dave-G Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) Do yourself a favour and follow the above good advice before you sell. Chances are it is the the larger wires in the black bellows between the drivers door and the pillar. Most of us know you can only bend metal so many times before it cracks and these cars are more widely known for the problem than some other common cars - which might indicate that poor quality wire was used. Just repair the crack in the wire(s) and... Poof - most of your problems will be gone just like magic. :) I'm surprised this occurs on that door as the drivers door is the one that gets most use - perhaps some work has been done on the door and the loom hasn't been plugged back in correctly. Check the wiring both bellows before you do anything else. Edited January 4, 2011 by Dave-G Quote
