Lecky Guy Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 New to the forum hope you guys (& girls) can help, my 2001 1.9tdi heater isnt working at all, the heater blows at the correct speeds but no hot air despite engine coming up to temp, been to local garage who have replaced thermostsat & drained/ refilled coolant & have bled it about 10 times, if the car is left idling then there is "warmish" air but as soon as the car is moving it blows cold. The car did overtemp in the summer, temp went straight to the red when I was doing about 70, let it cool down & topped it up and it did it again in October at the same speed, dont get the chance to do those speed very ofetn though as the car is mainly used on b roads in depths of Norfolk, could this be related to the heating fault? Have read with interest all the threads on aux heaters (which also isnt working but I wil look at later) but cant find much on the main heater Thanks in Advance Quote
adie_morris Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Sounds to me like the impellor has fallen off the back of the water pump! Is a common fault on 1.9Tdi. Quote

Lecky Guy Posted December 20, 2010 Author Report Posted December 20, 2010 Thanks for that will start looking into it, out of interest if the impeller has fallen off what is pumping the coolant around or is it as with everthing on the Galaxy a simple system made complicated! Also where do you get a workshop manual? Quote

Also where do you get a workshop manual? As you may have read these engines create very little waste heat thats why they rely on the booster heater for quicker warm up, when the impeller falls off you wont get any pumped circulation and then overheating when engine under pressure on a motorway. You will also probably find that your electric run on pump has packed up as well this will need to be checked when you decide to sort out the booster heater as that will not run correctly without it.There's not a haynes manual for the MK2 but there are CD's usually on Ebay that will work on an XP computer Quote
Lecky Guy Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 Thanks for everyones advice on this, from joining this forum I have discoved the Galaxy heating system is indeed complicated % unreliable, since my original thread I have fixed multiple problems with my heating inc run-on pump (new brushes)/ blower not working speeds 1 & 2 (repaired heater resistor pack) & aux heater not working (large red wire at heater repaired) However still have the same problem so looks like I'm going to have to check the water pump out, this however would be a garage job (many Quote
