sotal Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Dave I doubt the run on pump would cause the failure, but it's possible but you've got something else which is broken now. The code you posted suggests the Control Module, or an unreportable error (so most likely the control module in the heater). My Run on pump failed recently and all that happened was that the heater just cycled up to 360*C then down to 60*C then back up again. As it wasn't been pumped around it was just heating the coolant around the heater, so the car wasn't warming up and the heater was just overheating and cooling down. I didn't get any error codes with this and it was quite happy to do it. Worth checking your aux pump is runningt though before repairing anything else. @Smitch - there are much cheaper ways than paying Ford Quote
smitch Posted November 24, 2010 Author Report Posted November 24, 2010 Dave, The company is Thames Valley Electro Diesel, Hyperion Way, Reading. The heater chap is called Barry. Very knowledgable and had a good test set. Erba controller to try and start the heater, various diagnostic stuff and took the time to check an explain everything. As I said he even checked the dosing pump for me. He did say that a glow plug from him would be Quote

smitch Posted November 25, 2010 Author Report Posted November 25, 2010 Just check VAGcom and one instance of heater overtemp but cleared and hasn't come back since and has been outside running for a little while. Temp when running on VAGcom is 275-280C. Car warmed up really well on way home despite temp outside 2.5c. Quote

If it's not running it could cause the overheating and could damage the new heater Quote
davewill Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 After 2 weeks of no Aux Heater working, the bl***y thing fired up last night Had left the car on a car park all day, drove home around a mile, and when i switched off the engine, there was the "jet engine" sound, and the "aircraft fuel" smell Put my hand onto the Aux heater exhaust, and the "small box section" was warm, but the pipes were cold Went out later last night and when i got back the jet engine noise was there again. Did notice however that the noise stopped after a few seconds of turning off the engine. In the past i seem to remember it lasting for 30 - 45 seconds So now dont know what to get looked at or repaired, or shall i just leave it till winters out!! Quote

Chris Its the small exhaust pipe that is cold. Today it hasnt fired up again, so now i am thinking that maybe the Aux pump is faulty and that is causing the aux heater not to fire up Quote
