mikeshe Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 My daughter recently bought a Galaxy which we think has cc fitted. It has "Off & On", "Set" & "Resume" on one of the stalks. She has tried getting it to work but so far has been unable to. She has gone down the road at 50mph with the on switch selected and pressed "Set" thinking that the cc would be engaged and it's not. Is there a specific procedure to engage cc? If what she has done so far has been correct then we can assume the cc isn't working, what should we be checking to get it working? Thanks. Quote

mikeshe Posted November 19, 2010 Author Report Posted November 19, 2010 Hi thereWill need to know which model, year, engine you have as they operate differently. It's a 2000 W reg, Ghia, with a 2.3 petrol. Quote
chromedome Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 The petrol versions use a mechanical system using vacuum pipes to control the cruise control. The most common failure is breaks in the pipes somewhere. I believe there is a canister with pipes attached to it behind the offside headlight, this seems to be the most common point of failure so check for damaged/corroded pipess. No doubt someone with far more knowledge than me on this forum will steer you in the right direction. Quote
bingo nightly Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 To operate the cruise control you switch the system on by sliding the switch to the left, then press and hold the set button on the end of the stalk, you should feel a slight movement of the throttle peddle beneath your foot and the car will maintain the set speed as required. If you need to go faster then press and hold the set button once again, the car will acelerate, release the button when requred speed is reached. If none of this happens then its not working. Most likely common fault (as mentioned before) is a broken plastic pipe where it joins the control unit which is situated under the nearside wing. Is this 2000 W plate a MK1 or 2? On MK1's you loosen an allen bolt and slide the side light unit out to gain access to the unit. On MK2's I assume it is slightly different but by and large similar procedure. If this proves to be the problem, as it was with mine when I bought it, then simply cut off damaged end of pipe and re connect it to the unit. Hope this helps. Quote
mikeshe Posted November 19, 2010 Author Report Posted November 19, 2010 Thanks lads, that's a great help to know where to start looking. If it's not raining tomorrow I'll have a look and report back. Quote
mikeshe Posted November 20, 2010 Author Report Posted November 20, 2010 I've had a look behind the N/S Indicator and found a split pipe. I thought "Great, that's sorted that problem!" I cut off the split section and gave the car a run.......... still not working :18: Obviously not the only thing wrong with the CC, is there an specific order by process of elimination to check to rectify. I assume the split pipe is the most common fault, where to next? Thanks. PS. Also the O/S screen wash jet isn't working. Tried clearing with a pin but that didn't work. Made sure water is fed to the jet okay, no problem there. Haynes manual says to prise up one end of the jet to remove. How do you remove the jet without scratching the bonnet? Quote
