Hey john,

no matter what the state of the battery is it sjould not affect the light, the light indicates charging (hence why it always comes on when you turn the ignition on without the engine running) make sure you have the belt fitted correctly once you are confident of that if it is still not charging use a multimeter on the back of the alternator to see if it is working and trace back from there.

Hope this helps

thanks every one.yep i am now confident that the belt is right and the wires are right on the back ofthe altinator.

i will check the altanator for the out put with a multi meter.

does anyone know where a wireing diagram would be?

it was the same alternator that i used and it was working fine before the re build lol.

thanks in advanse.

Also check the condition of the auxiliary fuse box (the one by the battery) the crimped terminals can suffer from high resistance which causes them to get hot and melt the plastic fuse box, carefully inspect the ring terminals of the large cables.
