Diy Service 2002 1.9 Tdi Help

Hi just got a 2002 1.9tdi and it despratly needs a service i have serviced most of my old cars but have a few questions .

1 what type of oil is best for 1.9tdi and how many (lt) dos the engine take.

2 should i flush it as the oil is black and what would you recomend i use if i should .

3 is there any thats I should check/look out for while im oily.

4 is there any tricky or fiddly bits to look out for.

You must use an oil that meets VW spec 505.01 (or expensive longlife 507.00). 505.00 oil is NOT suitable. These are high shear tolerant oils that are designed specially for PD engines. If you use an oil that does not meet one of these specs then you risk damage to the camshaft that drives the PD injectors. Quantum Platinum oil is a reasonably priced (around

Answers to your questions.

1. Fully synthetic SAE 5W-40 for PD engines 4.3 litres with filter change.

2. You can but I would just get the engine hot and let it drain right out, change the filter while your waiting. if you do flush use the same oil for refil.

3. You should look up under the back of the engine for any leaks while the undersheild is off.

4. Lots of tricky fiddly bits but if it's running OK leave it alone

pollen filters an arse of a job but instructions are in the faqs on how to do this,iirc thanx to seatkid.

 

i use a silverline oil extractor bought for a lot less then 60 quid,found it very usefull.

I know i did the pollen filter on my mk1 i think they could of made it harder if thay welded a plate over it but not much....

did the service this weekend all went very smoothly no nasty supprises but i left the pollen filter this time.
