Revs Jumping While Change Gear

hi found this place while desperatly searching for an answer to my problem and hope theres someone here who can help, I know it's not a galaxy but guessing it may have the same engine with them being related and all other forums etc have drawn a blank. I have come across the air by pass thingy in the FAQ but not sure it is the same problem.

Hi there and welcome to the site

Your engine is not used on the Galaxy but I had that same problem albeit intermittent a few years ago on a Ford Cougar, that turned out to be the throttle position sensor,this is located on the throttle housing butterfly that also didn't show up a fault code.

Hope that's of some help as this may or may not be fitted to your car.

Cheers m8 all ideas appreciated. Thinking about trying to clean the throttle body etc see if that helps. I take it the tps isn't serviceable, just replaceable? Have also read about clutch pedal switch but not convinced about that as I've just tried slowly rising the revs to 3000 as if I was driving and it seemed to still do it, although not quite so bad.

Another possibility that has been put forward today is the fact that the brake booster must be leaking as there is a hissing from the bellow by the pedal, when you move the bellow around the hissing stops, but apparantly there shouldn't be any sound inside the car as that is just a dust cover. So this could be leaking air into the manifold after the maf meter hence not throwing up a code, and the excess air is causing it to add extra fuel hence the low mpg and also the excess fuel in the system then causing the flare up between gears etc. Does this sound feasible, the only thing now making me doubt this is that I pulled the brake pipe off the manifold and sealed it off and tested but it still over revved. I only tested it once or twice in a lane as obviously I had no brakes as such. The brakes are fine in normal use so perhaps this is too small a leak to be affecting anything?
