Engine Revs

Hi

 

My car has started over revving. it's around 2,000 revs at idle/driving, and when coming to stop/gear changes rises to around 3,000 + when the brake and clutch pedals are depressed.

 

Any ideas?

Is it petrol or diesel?

If diesel, check the oil level.

sorry, its a petrol. 2.3 glx. just put oil in. not made a lot of difference :D( Edited October 9, 2010 by Kukurni

Check all vacuum hoses for splits/perishing this can cause high idle speed.

Thanks for the answers. it is the idle control valve. its completely shot to pieces and i've got to get a new one.
