Ladiesman 217 Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Hi All - my 2002 TDi manual Galaxy (84k miles) has started making a loud growly mechanical noise when carrying out low speed parking manoeuvres, typically involing lock to lock turning. Most noise is produced when close to or at full lock. I'm assuming it is tied up with the belt being worn (have owned the car from new and pretty sure it has never been replaced - looking at it you can see minor cracking on all areas of the belt when you twist it a little to see the underside), perhaps the tensioner or pulleys as well. Just looking for some confirmation that this might well be the case instead of it being something more serious/expensive. Has anyone had any similar experiences, please? Many thanks. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Hi thereIf you havn't changed the alternator clutch pulley recently then that is a likely suspect, auxiliary belt tensioner can also give problems here if the spring has lost tension. Quote

I have a similar problem with the steering, i was told the the steering rack was at fault as it is leaking oil, I have to keep topping up the oil level for the steering, this stops the noise. munster Quote
