Black Smoke On Start Up

We have a 1.9tdi 2002 galaxy and it has started giving off a puff of black smoke when we start her. This goes as quick as it appears and we get no more smoke while the car is sat or while driving.

I have read a few comments about black smoke and some say, no problems and no action required, yet others read get it checked out at garage...

 

Dont want to be 'told' it is something and then charged for a repair when it didnt need it.

 

Any ideas very much appreciated

providing it's had all it's filters and oil changed regularly and it's running OK with no loss of power don't worry about it thats normal.
