chrispb123456 Posted May 21, 2011 Report Posted May 21, 2011 Hi NigelHope this helps you and anyone else removing engine ecu (PCM) Quote
nicebutdim Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 I had this same problem too. I was able to release the unit from it's clamp but was unable to remove the wiring harness. Does anyone know how to do this? Quote
new nige Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 Anyone know if you take out your ECU and unplug it (to mend the internal hose) will this compromise the engine or immobiliser coding and hence require it to be reprogrammed? If so can you do this with VCDS lite or do your need full version? Quote
new nige Posted May 24, 2011 Author Report Posted May 24, 2011 Had another go see photo, so close but still cant work out how to release it? any suggestions? Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Now attempting exactly same thing as you nige. You have to remove all the trim below the steering wheel and get at it from underneath. Am attempting same as you, replacement of map pipe. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Hi Andy/NigelWould be a good idea if one of you can do a few photo's and a short description as this seems a popular ongoing topic, and may help other members looking at the instructions and diagram from what I posted doesn't give a clear view of the ECU fastenings or the internal view of the ECU.Chris Quote
new nige Posted May 25, 2011 Author Report Posted May 25, 2011 I will post if / when I manage it, I have the lower facia off at present but can Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 I'm at same point as you Nigel all bottom fascias off and going by Haynes but the haynes manual is utter garbage, only good for torque settings imho. Quote
new nige Posted May 25, 2011 Author Report Posted May 25, 2011 Dont let the footwell light hang loose and short on the chassie, it will blow the interia light fuse. Good luck and keep things posted Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Ok have managed to get ecu out( now with badly cut hands) but I need to stop now as I need to sort tea out for the kids. I will take a load of pics later this evening on how I removed it with a how to. All I will say is that it's an absolute nightmare to do!! Quote
nicebutdim Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Being completely honest, I found removing the whole dash a lot easier than trying to get at the ecu through piddily little holes. You only need a replacement bolt for the steering wheel. I wish I had dealt with my ecu when I last had my dash out, and I am very tempted to do it again to get at the bloody thing. For the life of me I cannot get the wiring loom to release from the ecu itself! Quote
