Whatever the PCM is, I must have upset it, as today a miracle has happened. On a 30 mile journey to birmingham, at 70mph on the motorway, it gave 45.4 to the gallon. On the return journey, at 58mph in cruise control, an astounding 53.7 to the gallon. The Ford God must have heard my plea. Lets hope this good fuel consumption continues. will save me a fortune.

I have had my 2010 2.0 diesel 140 Powershift model for a month now and done about 1000 miles (it is 3 months old and had 3000 miles on when i got it)

I have tried driving it as carefully as i can (in terms of right foot power) and have managed 38.6mpg on a 50 mile A road and Motorway journey using cruise control as much as possible. Around Town the average is about 32mpg at the moment

Its certainly not as good yet as my old 2006 Mkll 1.9Tdi 115 Auto Gal, so i hope the PCM quickly learns my driving style and gives me more MPG

As an update to my mail above

I drove the car in "powershift" mode (i.e as a manual) on a 70 mile journey that included A roads, Motorway and Town centre

I never let the car get above 2000 revs even on the Motorway (70mph = 2000 revs)

At the end of the journey i had averaged 44.8mpg according to the computer

So therefore i believe that if driven in powershift mode, a greater MPG can be achieved than in Automatic mode, mainly because in Auto mode the revs are higher before the auto box changes up

Galaxy 3 is definatley a much thirstier beast to the Galaxy 2!

Even with 240,000 miles on clock and all the seats in, my old Gal 1.9Tdi 115 could turn in an average 49-49mpg on a steady 70mph M/way cruise and around 42 at 80. This new 2.0 TDCi beast, well, 42mpg if I was lucky and dropping to 38ish at an 80 cruise.

I say was, because yesterday, en-route from Herts to the Wirral and back, I switched off ESP - whoa! the average mpg started to climb to 44-46mpg at 70 and dropped to around 43 at 80!

Has anyone else found better economy with ESP (Where fitted) switched OFF?

Cheers!

I tried the other way round. ESP off the watched the mpg when I turned it back on. Didn't change.

So I can see how it would affect the mpg unless ESP runs some pump when on.

2.0Tdi 2010 Powershift Titanium Galaxy. 5000 miles on vehicle.

ESP Update!!!!!

Turned off the ESP on a journey i did yesterday and reset average MPG and average MPH on computer, before Journey

Telford - Bracknell 150 mile total and only me in the vehicle

M54 - M6 - M42 - M40 - A404 - M4 - A329(M) Bracknell Town Centre

Drove in Powershift mode, no higher than 2000 revs on journey, no faster than 70Mph on motorways and used cruise control as much as possible (approx 70% of journey)

Average MPH 62 Average MPG 42.4

I thought it would be better than this??

Could a Ford Dealer be able to check on MPG and consumption???

Switching ESP off will have no noticeable effect whatsoever on fuel consumption.

It is just a low power electronic sensor system which only activates the brakes when it needs to. So, during normal use, the power drawn from the alternator is negligible.

I'm someone concerned about these comments to turn ESP off, its only monitoring the vehicle in normal operation. Turning it off will have a 0% impact on MPG.

I would agree that turning off ESP should have no effect, as you say its only monitoring the vehicle in normal conditions. What alerted me to try this was the reaction of other posts on other car owners websites. It could be a sort of placebo effect! but my Gal is producing consistently improved MPG since actively remembering to switch off ESP at the start of a LD journey. NB - ESP always "on" in wet or damp conditions though. I could try without switching ESP off but can I afford the extra diesel? :)

Hi. Had 2.0l tdci 163 manual 2011 galaxy for couple of months. Had a 2.0l tdci ghia before for three years. I used to get 37mpg around town and 45-47mpg on long journeys in my old one (better than quoted and impressive for such a large car). New one - well what a disappointment. Cant get above 37mpg even on a long journey in cruise (only two people in the car!) This best mpg is travelling in sixth gear at about 47mph with minimal breaking - only way to get it this high!! Get 460 miles out of the tank (quoted range is 764!). Even my old one gave me in excess of 520 miles from a tank. Garage reckons no fault codes showing and its all correct!! Its only producing about 60-65% of the expected MPG. Economy record shows 5/5 for all aspects! How can this be correct. Wish I'd kept my old one (56 plate)

Snap I have a 61 reg 2.0TDCI Galaxy Titanium 163ps manual.

Really struggle to get 37.5 and soon as any weight in car goes down even more, it's done nearly 12.000mls now and had it's first service and I commented to Ford dealer about this, their reply was that was normal for them and to take no notice what it says in the handbook.

At last I find someone with the same problem! (doesn't make you feel better though!) as it now backs up that it isnt just my vehicle as the garage states. Before now I struggled to find anyone with the same problem and therefore thought it must be the car. But are we the only ones???? Are we really to believe that it is all we should expect? This is only about 60/65% of the quoted mpg? Honest John reckons  realistically we should get 89%!! My last galaxy was one of the first mark III and provided much better fuel economy yet these later engines we are lead to believe are much more economical! Hence why we upgraded to it. I really am so disappointed. Anyone else out there with the same findings or is there something wrong with our two's cars???

I have a 58 plate 2.0 manual.

My OBC tells me 44 but I think its probably about 42 when checking by using the fill up to fill method. This is on nearly 400 miles of M1, A14 and M11.

I dont trust the OBC.

But I do drive at 77 on the motorway and its such a big car that I cant really expect a huge amount out of it.

I think that if I dropped to about 65 mph then I would get 50+ but lifes too short. It would be nice to have a few more miles .
