jockmonkey Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Hi have had my 1997 V6 4x4 Galaxy gearbox fixed. It stopped going into D and hence wouldn't drive at all. After stripping the box down, inspecting and checking various bits, it became clear that the hydraulic control unit in the bottom of the box wasn't working. Had this refurbed by robb's garage on the Wirral, very happy would recommend them thoroughly. Now the box works, and both in D and 1-2-3 However, the car isn't going to 4th. running up to 70-80mph, car is fine, but sits at about 5K rpm and is obviously noisy.. Anyone any ideas? The valve block needed cleaned as there was a fair bit of crud in the valves hence they were not building up to pressure, and not operating properly. Car is also an LPG so wondering if any electrical issues could cause this fault, as the electrcis under the bonnet look "interesting" Quote
chrispb123456 Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Hi thereFound this in the TIS manual, may be of some use.Symptom. Selector lever in position D.transmission does not engage in 4th gear (no power transfer)Action. Service 4th gear clutch and 2nd and 4th gear brake. Quote
andyfishing Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Hiya, Did you have the valve block dye tested to make sure there was no cracks? It is a common fault that the piston dies. Is the fluid level correct? It is a pig to get the height correct as it has to be at 45c. I would get a Ford garage to check it. I hate LPG with a passion as it burns valves, however, unlikely to affect the gearbox. Yours Andy Quote
