icecoolpsycho Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 Car runs fine. Accelerates fine etc but if I take my foot off the accelrator I get a knocking noise for half a second. No noise when I accelerate or change gear, or if I slowly release the accelerator. It only occirs when I take my foot off it. Any ideas? Quote

Could be anything from an engine mount, to an exhaust shield to the dreded worn splines. You need to get under and take a look, check the condition of all 3 engine mounts and the whole exhaust system. Quote
matt1e Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 I have this too....It seems like it can be induced with acceleration (Sharp) or deceleration i.e. the ending shifting forwards or backwards. I have heard there is a mount/brace at the rear of the engine. If so has anyone got a diagram of the part and the part number needed? Matt Quote
Mirez Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 Again you need to get under and have a rummage about. Read this as well: SplinesCertainly becoming a common fail point and one of the potential causes of the noise. Quote

MattHi thereA quick check of the engine roll restrictor, grab hold of the top of the engine and try to pull and push any slackness there would point to the roll restrictor mount or even a sheared bolt, this will require removal of the undertray, but as Mirez has already said you need to have a good look around so removing tray would be essential. There are some available on ebay depending on your model, year engine etc. Quote
seatkid Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 Most likely sheared bolt on engine roll restrictor. Common fault. Roll restrictor mounted underneath runs back between gearbox and bodywork near the engine bulkhead. Quote
