John Nellist Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Hi all, I have a MKII 51 plate Galaxy with a 2.3 petrol engine. The aircon comp on the car gave up the ghost and is currently running with the compressor removed. I have ordered the replacement compressor, the question I have is can I run the car without gas in the aircon to get me somewhere to have it gassed?? I know it sounds like a stupid question but do I risk the new compressor getting damaged as I know they put oil in the system when they gas it? Thanks in advance John Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Hi thereWith no pressure in the system the pressure switch will not allow the clutch to engage, but to be sure leave the electrical supply to the compressor disconnected.Your right about the oil but make sure the system is vacuumed as moisture will have entered whilst disconnected. John Nellist Posted June 30, 2010 Author Report Posted June 30, 2010 Many thanks, don't know why I didn't think of the clutch not engaging if there is no connection!! Was going to leave the car with no air-con for a while as the engine is so much quiter now the comp is out (I guess its been on its way out for a while) but the hot weather means its going back in this weekend. Thanks again for your input, most helpful. John Quote
jpb2603 Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 I have a 52 plate 2.3, took it for a fulll service and a regas. The garage found the compressor has given up the ghost. They recommend an air con specialist and not a Fraud dealer. Does anyone know a good air con specialist in the Southend are of Essex. Quote
