I've got Vredestein Sportrac 3's on mine, £65~ each delivered from Camskill for 215/55/16/XL's, paid local fitter £10 to fit, balance and valve each of them up :)

Probably not as good as the Conti's, but at 1/2 the price you'll be pleasantly surprised! (Do I sound like a sales man? :) )

oh and for the air con regas I paid £50+vat on Friday at a garage nearish to my work.

Thank you for the reply - I've decided on the Conti's expensive but an excellent tyre.

I'm confused about the re-gas - everything I've read says that they need re-gassing every couple of years. A mobile person today told me (over the phone) that they should last 15 years+ - saying that you don't re-gas a fridge. Mine was last re-gased 3 years ago and the car has not been used at all for 5 months - I'm now getting poor cooling. Is this to be expected or is it likely that I've got a fault? The local Tyre depot (No not one whos name starts with a K) says they check for leaks first free of charge and wont fill it if theres a leak - is there any reason why I shouldn't use them?

manufacturers expected acceptable losses are 60-130g per year  so on a single ac system that gives you around 7 years before the system is totally empty! so yes after three years get it re-gassed, I use to get my Galaxy checked out yearly and as for the fridge comment? a fridge doesnt do 30k+ a year on todays crap roads? a fridge doesnt take the same abuse as your cars ac system or run in such hostile conditions

Hi there

Air con outlasting the life of the car ;) dont think so, 3 or 4 years if your lucky and you would notice a degradation in the cooling well before the gas has expired, have heard some good reports from these pop in places, has this one been recommended to you? beware they may conveniently not find a leak regass your car then a week later no aircon again.

Personally I prefer to have mobile specialist come to me, you can watch whats going on and he will show you if you have a leak.

I agree with both of you, so how can I trust a guy who's already planted the seed of doubt? My Cousin in Italy expressed surprised that I hadn't recharged mine last year - they get theirs recharged yearly at most every two years. The only people I know with aircon that seems to last without maintenance are Nissan owners. Spoke to my neighbour this afternoon who had his L reg Golf regassed a few weeks ago from Kwik-Fit - it was the first time he'd had it done and he's very pleased. Anyone know a good mobile person in south London / North surrey, please.

Took my Galaxy last week to a guy in Horley while trying to trace an A/C fault. He didn't find the fault but I knew it was an intermittent electrical problem, I just wanted to confirm quantity of coolant. oil and that the system was leak tight before I started playing with sensors and other things. We spent a couple of hours playing with the A/C and eliminating various parts of the system and he really couldn't have been more helpful. I wanted to replace any broken parts myself and we worked out which was the most likely culprit.

A real old school guy, interested in what he does and cares about helping people, I'll never go elsewhere again. I don't know how far you are from Horley but he's Mark at http://www.autobrite.co.uk/contact.htm 01293 825632 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting

I always get my vehicles a/c serviced every 24 months and I experience no problems. Get it done by someone who knows what they're doing as opposed to someone who can use the clean/refil machine.

Tyres I use nothing else but Falken 452 on my golf gti and galaxy. Great grip, looks, price, and wear. Check them out at tyre review and camskill.

Hi

Recent probs with air con on my gal led me to browse and stumble on this thread.

I have an old rare pug 405 x 4 16 v in my garage hoping it will become a classic, first registered in 1991. It been on a SORN for several years now but is checked out every 6 months or so. Air con still works (R12) and it has 100k on the clock. Ive had the car for 12 years and it has never been recharged.

Im the first to agree that in theory they should not leak but I know that once subject to vibration and heat when back on the road it will be inevitable.

Hi there

Removal of the condenser is best done by removing front bumper and grill, it will require that you cut a small section from the support to allow the condenser to pass through.

If that price is including a re-gas then that's reasonable, mine was done 4 years ago for
