alane Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Hi One of the cup holders in my 2003 LX won't pop out. I guess the first question is - did the LX have two functioning cup holders? It's completely jammed and won't press in at all. Any ideas for releasing it? Best Regards Quote

wolves Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Someones been to McDonalds...!!! Jayton Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Take it out (mind the electrical plug on the back!) and clean it in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly before installing again, mine (driver side) was really slow to pop out and got much better after this but still isn't as fast as the passenger side one. chrispb123456 Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Hi thereThe cup holders are not held in with screws, but a single locking tang all you need is a set of the feeler guages, pick one of the thicker ones, and slide it in on the top edge left side see pic. Quote

Hi Chris Thanks for the info and picture. I've tried pushing the feeler gauge in but nothing seems to be releasing. How much pressure needs to be applied? chrispb123456 Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Hi AlanThe cassette may be stuck with spilt drink thats dried, the opening that the cassette fits is slightly wider and you may be missing the tang with your feeler, try going in 5mm from the left towards the middle, you should feel a slight resistance then the feeler should go in a few mm's.If you haven't already done so you may find it easier if you take the radio out, you can then push the cassette from behind with your other hand. :) Quote

That radio is going to have to come out. Thanks Alan. Quote
richyrich Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Just done both my cup holders over the weekend and found there are 2 tangs to be released on each cup holder. Left and right on the top. Did it with 2 large feeler gauges.C;eaned in hot soapy water, dried them out and replaced. Now working fine. Richyrich Quote

chrispb123456 Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Hi thereThere are two tangs on each holder that need to be depressed, mine only have one on each as they have snapped of at some time, you may also find it easier if you remove radio as you can push cup holder from behind.See attached new photo's Quote
alane Posted June 20, 2010 Author Report Posted June 20, 2010 I still cannot get that cup holder out. I've tried two feeler gauges in as described. I push in, overcome slight resistance on the right but on the left it feels very stubborn. I've taken the radio out and am pushing the cup holder from behind but it won't shift. Is there something I'm missing? Best Regards Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Hi alan can only repeat whats already been said you may need to give the stubborn one a bit of brute force. Quote
loutdi Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Hi All Great site, recently brought 2001 zetec diesel....with jammed cup holders. Great info the feeler gauge soloution worked a treat after a wash they now fly out. Think the next step is to check the washer feed under the passenger footwell. Thanks for the info will be visiting more :) loutdi Quote
