merky Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Hi We have a problem with our Galaxy. Every so often the engine will not idle. When it does this the fuel gauge also stops shows zero even though it has fuel in it. So far if you leave the car a while it is fine again. Does anyone have any ideas? Does this car have a fuel filter and if so where is it located? Could a dirty one cause this problem? Thanks Mark Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Hi there Firstly do you suffer any loss of power when you have problem, ie acceleration is it smooth with no misfiring, rough idle/stalling usually dirty/sticking idle control valve and/or perished or split vacuum pipes should also be checked. There is a fuel filter mounted under the car near the fuel tank, and is a service item. Not heard of the fuel gauge and stalling being associated may be coincidence unless someone else knows different, I do know fuel gauge has had its own problems. If you have no power loss I would go straight to the idle valve which is mounted on top of the inlet manifold remove it and clean best you can with some carb cleaner and check all vacuum hoses at same time, see if you get any improvement.
