hi there i have recently bought a ford galaxy on an 02 plate 2.3 petrol, i got it quite cheap as it was a non runner, however while looking at it mt partner has come to the conclusion that the engine is seized and it needs a new one, also he thinks the speedo is knackered as well as you cant see the milage.

Anyway my point is that there is only 1 key its a small key no more than mayb 4mm think, barely thicker than the key bit its self, almost looks like a spare key, it has no remote door buttons on it or anything like that, my thought us that its the wrong key with no "chip" in it or something and thats why it wont start?????

Am i barking up the wrong tree and my partner is right or could i have a valid point, wanted to ask you lot on here b4 i mention it to him lol

Hi there

Welome to the site

The key you are trying is it all black and plastic, if so that is the emergency key which is only for occasional use, I must admit I have one and have just gone to the car to try it, and to my surprise it does start the engine so it must have a chip in the handle end.

Is the battery charged? do ignition lights come on when key is turned on? does starter turn engine over? is there an led light on the drivers door panel?

As Chris says thats the emergency key which they suggested at the time be "placed somewhere outside the vehicle" - yeah, I can see the insurance company loving that.

It has indeed got a transponder in the top of it, however I believe that a large number left the factory without being coded to the car as I've seen countless numbers which needed programming to make them work - my own needed coding and the car was Ford owned from new and then us with both the second key and emergency one being on the same unused ring in a sealed bag!

We need a full description of what happens to be able to help further...
