tbag Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 hi all, after stalling my galaxy at a roundabout the brake pad wear indicator light came on. the pads have only done 13,000 miles so its not a wear problem. then i looked at the connectors, the rear one is fine but the front one snapped as i twisted it,both the terminals were black so i think it was damp somewhere, now there is no connection at all. will this lack of connection make the light stay on or do i have to get some new pads to cure the problem. thanks t bag Quote
dave21 Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 hi the light will stay on due to the break in the connection so if you want the light out you must either replace the pads or bridge the connector with a small piece of wire(loop in and out -the connector),but by doing this you will not know when pads wear down cheers dave Quote
Ginettamad Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Mine too snapped so I have now just soldered the wires to some straightened out sections of paperclips which push into the socket then insulated them and the light has gone out. Number 1 wire is the Live in the socket. H Quote

Nope, its a loop of wire embeded in the pad which you basically erode as you brake until the point its open circuit. Quote
frogeye Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Have you got to take the calipers off to do this successfully? Will vagcom tell you which wheel it is? Thanks Frogeye ps sorry for the piggyback tbag! Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Hi thereIf the wire is broken in the pad you will need to remove caliper to change pads.Vag-Com can't tell you which wheel as wear leads are not on all wheels. Quote
tbag Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 thanks guys, now i know how it works i can rectify the problem. i always clean and copper grease pads once a year anyway so i can keep an eye on wear. it must have been the last straw when i stalled it. thanks again t bag Quote
Mirez Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 i always clean and copper grease pads once a year anyway I assume you mean the BACKS of the pads :) Quote
tbag Posted June 2, 2010 Author Report Posted June 2, 2010 Nice one, they would last forever if i greased the fronts Quote
tbag Posted June 5, 2010 Author Report Posted June 5, 2010 Hi all, everything is now in order. i cut a short length of speaker wire that i found in my shed, this had soldered ends which fit in the female connector perfectly. drilled two holes where the flat pins went, press the two halves together then join wires to brake pad.result no light. thanks again t bag Quote
