Jayton Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 the front discs don't need a bearing pressed in do they? It's part of the hub, likewise for the rear right? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 Hi Jay TIS shows bearings being pressed out and in.The rear one is actually in the trailing arm they show a special tool for removing/replacing on the car, if a conventional press is used you will need to remove the arm, more involved than doing a front bearing Quote

chrispb123456 Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 MK2VR6If everyone was as clever and perfect as you obviously are there would be no need for this forum at all :) Quote
Jayton Posted May 28, 2010 Author Report Posted May 28, 2010 Chris, you just made me sh!t myself :D There would have been almost no where to get bearings tomorrow where I live :) It's a Friday, you're forgiven ;) :P Thanks MK2VR6 for clearing it up :) Quote
Jayton Posted May 29, 2010 Author Report Posted May 29, 2010 Well bugger me, It started looking so promising then the rewind tool wouldn't fit in the caliper so I took off the 2 nobs from the other side and it fitted in OK. THEN I started winding the piston in and it got so far and wouldn't go any further... so I thought well that's all the way in let's get the tool out... didn't want to come out :D tried for ages to get it out... no luck :( It got to around 4pm so I called a mobile mechanic out, he couldn't get it undone either, he suggested taking the caliper off and taking it down to a garage to get the tool out. Also 1 of the slider pins is ceased, so I need to also sort that out. oh and that was the first corner I started on so the cars now parked up at the outlaws until Tuesday when I can get it to a mech, I'll get him to also replace the discs and pads. I can't be bothered anymore. Quote
Jayton Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 Righto, got the piston wound in and the pads on and capiler bolted in and sliding pin moving again... Now when we released the bleed nipple, it was really grotty so took it out to clean it up... now it just turns round and round and it only has a few threads still showing. Is there any way to get it back in or is it time for a new nipple? :D Or is it all the way in now and am I just being paranoid? Quote
gregers Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 it sounds like the thread has stripped on either/or so maybe a new nipple will sort it or you might have to tap the thread/s?. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Hi again JayIf this bleed nipple's not tightening up on this caliper and the thread is damaged in the caliper then a new bleed nipple wont help, and winding PTFE tape round the nipple is not even a temporary option, drilling out the old thread and tapping to a larger size nipple would bring it's own complications, 1.find a larger size diameter nipple, 2, getting the taps to cut the thread, and probably work out dearer than a new caliper. My advice get a good s/hand or better still new caliper. <_< Just imagine what could happen you hit the brakes hard in an emergency, pop out comes the old nipple pedal drops!! don't need to say anymore. :( Quote
Jayton Posted May 31, 2010 Author Report Posted May 31, 2010 Are the MK1 and MK2 rear calipers the same? I've found a cheap set of MK1 calipers and they look pretty much the same as mine in the pics but I just need to be 100% sure <_< Quote
